Bourbon Island : Minijean Dodonpa talk about Art in SL

Minijean Dodonpa: The word “complex” is the right one. Bourbon Island is the former name of Reunion Island. But the choice was done must by chance. However, I really wanted to open a window on the potential offered by 3.0 webs in general and especially SL. The concept can be sum up this way: to bring together talents in matter of skills about the possibilities offered by SL, and show what we can offer in terms of communication.

AM: We can notice the great quality of the estate, a perspective of quality but also of aesthetics, were those notions of utmost importance for you? 
MD: They come with the concept in a more play way, the environnement is nicer to work in. Moreover, I chose someone like Yadni Monde to build it and those notions are the basis of his work. He did not only a fabulous work, but he also learnt me a lot.

AM: You lend your facilities to nonprofit organizations such as Pirats, why do you have that interest for art?
MD: Graphic design in SL can have several interests. SL is a footbridge and the world of Art doesn’t touch enough persons in our societies. If my real life means don’t allow me to be a patron of art, second life offers me the opportunity to explore that way here. And the world of art had been part of my real life.

AM: What do you think about the connection with Pirats? How was born that collaboration?
MD: The founders of PiRats have a lot of common points with us. A great sense of aesthetics, an involvement and motivation, and moreover professionalism. Actually the collaboration was really simple. Newbab did his work presenting me his achievements. And I did mine, offering him the facilities of Bourbon. The rest is obvious, I am a contractor and they had an innovative concept perfectly presented with passion. And I am sensitive to that.

AM: Can you tell us your vision of SL? Which possibilities do you see in it?
MD: I was quite struck by the late France could have about internet in the 90’s. 
And being on board for an adventure is something gratifying. Second life is and stills for now the best virtual space technically. Even if a commercial realigning can be seen since a few months, the potential is the same. Interactivity, the possibility to create and work with no frontier. To know and share experience with people we would never met in RL. And in another area, the possibilities to be able to do that with budgets that are not comparable to RL.

It may be a wish more than a conviction, but I do trust that SL is a good representation of tomorrow’s WEB.

Ayanna Mubble: What is the concept of Bourbon, why did you create that complex?
